~ Storing Your Veil

Your veil will be fine being stored in its box wrapped in the acid-free tissue paper it came in, but if you prefer to hang it you can fold it gently and drape it over the bar of a trouser hanger (preferably not a wooden hanger, to avoid snagging the tulle - if that's all you have then lay a bed sheet or towel over the bar of the hanger before laying your veil on it). Then cover it with a protective garment cover and hang it somewhere dry, free from any moisture or damp. It can be stored like that indefinitely, and it might just need an iron or steam before your big day - I always include ironing instructions with my veils and a scrap of your veil fabric, so you can test the temperature of the iron/steamer on the scrap piece before touching the veil itself. With my own iron, I use the synthetic (lowest) setting on all my veils, and a little steam for veils made of Soft English Tulle, Soft Pure French Silk Tulle, and Firm Pure French Silk Tulle.

~ Veil Care While Wearing

During your wedding day, if you're wearing a soft silk or silk style tulle veil, be careful not to let any rough surfaces rub up against your veil, so as not to snag the tulle. Be sure that anyone who handles your veil has smooth nails (I know that sounds silly, but a rough area on a nail or a finger could catch on the tulle and cause a little pull in the fabric).

~ Cleaning Your Veil

After your wedding, you can have your veil professionally cleaned, or if you'd like to clean it yourself it's quite easy.

Just gently fold your veil and soak it in a tub with lukewarm water and a small amount of washing liquid, such as Ariel, swirled in. Don't submerge the veil comb, as it may rust - leave it hanging over the side of the tub if you can, or secure it to the side of the tub or to something outside of the tub, leaving the body of the veil in the water. Leave it in there for half an hour or so, and then pour the soapy water out; then rinse the veil by filling the tub with clean water, gently moving the folded veil around in the water and pouring this water out (do the rinsing part several times until the water that you're pouring out is pretty much clear of suds and lather).

Lift the dripping veil out and lay it on a large towel; fold the towel over the veil and then roll the towel up gently to absorb most of the water from the veil. Your veil can then be air-dried over a hanger or draped over a rail.

If it's still not totally clean, this process may need to be repeated, and if there are any particularly stained areas, I've safely used products like Vanish on tulle before - just be gentle with the tulle, dabbing it carefully, no scrubbing or rubbing it, as this may damage the delicate tulle.
