Mantilla Wedding Veils
A Mantilla Wedding Veil is the ultimate statement of grace and heritage. Unlike traditional gathered veils, the mantilla is a single circle or oval of tulle worn flat on the head, framed by a continuous lace border that beautifully encircles the face and shoulders. My collection honours this centuries-old Spanish tradition while showcasing today's premium, lightweight tulles that allow the lace to "float" effortlessly. Each mantilla is an artisan masterpiece, designed to create a soft, halo-like effect for your most sacred moments.
Mantilla Styles at a Glance
Since the beauty of a mantilla lies in its lace border, the weight and style of the lace and tulle completely changes the look.
Scalloped Chantilly: Soft, eyelash-fringe edges that feel like a delicate mist. Best for ethereal bohemian or vintage looks.
Corded (Alençon): Bold, defined borders that provide a structured "frame". Perfect for grand high ceilings, and regal ceremonies.
Embroidered lace: Flat, intricate lace, often with floral details. Perfect for modern brides wanting a sleek, low-profile look.
Point D'esprit: Dotted Swiss tulle paired with a lace edge. Best for a whimsical, playful or vintage-inspired aesthetic.
How to Wear Your Mantilla Veil
The mantilla is defined by its stunning lace border that runs along the very edge of the tulle. Unlike traditional gathered veils, the mantilla is designed to lie flat against the head, creating a graceful "halo" effect around the face.
The Traditional Placement
To achieve the classic mantilla look, the veil should be worn one to three inches behind the hairline. This allows the lace to frame your features perfectly, while still showing off your bridal glow.
Attachment Tip: I discreetly sew 3-4 small clips, or a metal veil comb in your choice of colour (silver, gold or rose gold), to the underside of the lace. For extra security, you can use a few "criss-crossed" hair grips pushed over the veil comb.
Choosing the Right Hairstyle:
Because the mantilla lies flat, your hairstyle acts as the "anchor" for the fabric:
The Low Chignon: A very popular choice. The veil drapes over the top of the head, and the lace falls elegantly over the bun. Alternatively you can wear your mantilla tucked into your low bun, for a draped, barely there effect (giving a similar effect to a drop veil when both tiers are behind the head).
Loose, Romantic Waves: For a more bohemian feel, wear your hair down with soft volume at the crown. The weight of the lace helps keep the veil in place.
The Half-Up Style: A small amount of height at the crown provides a perfect "shelf" for the comb to grip into, ensuring the lace sits flat against your head.
Avoid the "Gathered" Look:
The secret to a true mantilla aesthetic is zero gathering. If you pull the fabric too tight or bunch it up, you lose the continuity of the lace pattern. Allow the veil to fall naturally and flow from the crown of your head to the floor.
Styling Note:
If you are wearing a dress with high-detail shoulders, consider wearing your mantilla lower in your hair. Positioning your mantilla veil further back on the head allows the lace to frame your shoulders rather than your face, offering a subtle nod to tradition with a modern twist.
